Together in Faith: Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:15

This is the question for the ages. Who is Jesus to us, and how are we to respond to his admonition to build a kingdom of justice, love and peace?

Bishop's Committee Parishioner Liaison: Every week there will be an assigned member of the Bishop's Committee to serve as a Parishioner Liaison. We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern. The liaisons will bring all comments to the monthly meeting of the Bishop's Committee to be addressed as appropriate. This week’s Parishioner Liaison is Caleb Collins.

Project for the homeless: WE NEED LOTS AND LOTS OF PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS PLEASE! (Stores refuse to donate them). Members of our Cursillo group are crocheting mats for the homeless, using plastic shopping bags. We need bags and will have a box for that purpose in the Narthex. Anyone interested in assisting the group in the making of the mats may contact Monica Larsen at 480-621-8158 or mlarsen498@aol.com.

Devine Diners: Hello current and hopefully potential Devine Diners. It is almost time to reassign the smaller groups. So...If you would like to become a Devine Diner for the fall, please contact: Carolyn Morgan at gcmorgan41@aol.com or 817-266-8016. Remember we meet about once a month at someone's home, a restaurant or wherever the host selects. Please consider joining us. If you are a current Devine Diner and unfortunately cannot continue with us for any reason, please advise Carolyn and she will remove you from the fall participants. Hoping to have several new people sign up and enjoy the fun and fellowship.

Today's Readings: Exodus 14:19-31; Psalm 114; Romans 14:1-12, Matthew 18:21-35

Together in Faith: Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22

Seventy-seven times is a lot of forgiveness. Sometimes, just one time is a lot of forgiveness too! Is there one big forgiveness hurdle we can’t seem to get over? Perhaps this Sunday would be a good time to lay that particular burden to rest.

This week’s Parishioner Liaison is Charles Vaughn.

Today's Readings: Exodus 12:1-14; Psalm 149; Romans 13:8-14; Matthew 18:15-20

Together in Faith: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20

This is usually understood to be “two or three gathered” in worship, but it can just as appropriately mean two or three gathered in caring for others. We probably know of many groups that gather to provide food, shelter, money, support to those in need. Perhaps we should consider joining such a group which is gathered in Jesus’ name.

Today's Readings: Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 105:1-6, 23-26, 45c; Romans 12:9-21; Matthew 16:21-28

Together in Faith: “Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life? Matthew 16:25-26

Perhaps the key words here are “for my sake.” We are invited by Jesus to do what Jesus himself did, to love God and love our neighbor as we love ourselves, and then to act accordingly. Loving God, neighbor and self seems to be the way of salvation.

Bishop's Committee Parishioner Liaison: Every week there will be an assigned member of the Bishop's Committee to serve as a Parishioner Liaison. We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern.
