Today's Readings: Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28; Psalm 14; 1 Timothy 1:12-17; Luke 15:1-10 Noticias Re"Mark"ados (anuncios en español) Together in Faith: Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to Jesus. The Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, "This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them." Luke 15:1-2 Jesus’s habit of hanging around undesirables seems to have been a continual source of angst for all those looking for a reason not to like him. Actually it’s usually easy to spot what’s wrong with someone else…maybe that’s the reason Jesus asks why we see the speck of sawdust in another’s eye but pay no attention to the plank in our own eye. Jeremiah 18:4 Jeremiah’s parable teaches how God frequently reworks us to accomplish God’s works. God reworks many of us into stewards, people who care for the needs of others. Becoming a good steward can be the work of a lifetime! Bishop’s Visit: Our new Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Jennifer A. Reddall, will be visiting St. Mark’s on Sunday, September 29. Luke 14:7 To no surprise, Jesus' parable encouraged his listeners to seek a humble place seems totally old-fashioned...but it was apparently old-fashioned even in Jesus' time! Jesus invites his listeners, and us, to consider an other-centered view of life. Bishop’s Visit: Our new Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Jennifer A. Reddall, will be visiting St. Mark’s on Sunday, September 29.
