Today's Readings: Micah 6:1-8, Psalm 15; 1 Corinthians 1:18-31; Matthew 5:1-12
Together in Faith: When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up to the mountain; he began to speak, and taught them, saying; "Blessed are the poor in spirit..." Matthew 5:1-3 The teachings of Jesus, encapsulated in the Sermon on the Mount, have inspired and encouraged and lead people for centuries. His love for the poor in spirit, the needy, the outcast, the dispossessed, the 'invisible people'...this inspires us as well. Let us look around for the poor in spirit. Feast of the Candles: Next Sunday, February 5, at all regular services we will be blessing candles that will be used throughout the year. Parishioners are encouraged to bring any candles from home they would like to have blessed. White candles of any shape or size are suggested. Together in Faith: And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17 The voice from heaven ratified Jesus’ baptism and encouraged him to follow God’s call during his entire life. We too have been baptized, and we too have received encouragement to follow God’s call. Let’s resolve to be faithful to that call in all our thoughts and actions.
