Re“Mark”able News - 30 September 2018

Noticias Re"Mark"adas (anuncios espanol)

Together in Faith: Jesus said, “For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose their reward.” Mark 9:41

Jesus statement about a cup of water shows that very practical and simple acts are precisely the stewardship deeds he hopes his disciples make. Our care and support for others, no matter how small, are significant in the eyes of God.

Bishop's Committee Parishioner Liaison: Every week there is an assigned member of the Bishop's Committee to serve as a Parishioner Liaison. We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern. The liaisons will bring all comments to the monthly meeting of the Bishop's Committee to be addressed as appropriate. This week’s Parishioner Liaison is Teresa Gordon.

Halloween Celebration: There will be trick or treating and games for the children on Sunday, October 28 after the 10 am service. Donations of candy and/or game prizes are needed and appreciated. These items can be left in the kitchen or front office.

Thanksgiving Donations: It's almost time for Turkey again! If you would like to donate toward the purchase of gift cards for Turkeys, Food Pantry volunteers will be accepting donations during coffee time. The gift cards will be given to those in need during food distribution on November 13th.

Thanksgiving: Our annual Thanksgiving service will be held on Wednesday, November 21 at 10 am with Thanksgiving brunch after service. The church will provide two turkeys, but we would like people to sign up for various side dishes and beverages.

Sale at MarkDowns: The Thrift Store will have NEW UNUSED items for sale on Sundays during the coffee hour, between 8:45 and 9:45. So come and browse and make your selections. The Thrift Store continues to be opened on Sundays from 8:45-9:45 AM., between the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM services. Also, we need volunteers especially now due to several people having health issues. We need to have at least two people to have the store open otherwise it has to close. All our profits go to help with the church's expenses.

Together in Faith: Jesus asked his disciples, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. Mark 9:33-34

Even Jesus’ closest friends had a hard time understanding the command that his followers be the last of all and servant of all. Good stewardship is a wonderful way to be the servant of others.

Together in Faith: Jesus called the crowd and his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves. Mark 8:34

Denying ourselves is usually NOT the easiest way to go. On the contrary, we are frequently encouraged to consume, to help the economy, to satisfy our needs and our wants (easy to confuse those two!). Jesus, obviously, suggests a different way. What do we think about his suggestion? How might we implement it in our lives?

Bishop's Committee Parishioner Liaison: Every week there is an assigned member of the Bishop's Committee to serve as a Parishioner Liaison. We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern. The liaisons will bring all comments to the monthly meeting of the Bishop's Committee to be addressed as appropriate. This week’s Parishioner Liaison is Anali Perry.

Together in Faith: And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. Mark 7:35

The deaf man with the speech problem experienced immediate relief. Sometimes our stewardship, our charity, our giving, our intervention, has an immediate impact. Sometime it takes awhile. But whether immediate or over time, no kind deed of ours goes without an impact.
