Together in Faith: So Jesus called the disciples and said to them… “whoever wishes to become great among you must be a servant.” Mark 10:42-43.

The disciples obviously had a difficult time with Jesus’ constant message that servanthood was the way they should live. We can understand their difficulty, since most of us struggle with that message too! But Jesus’ message remains clear: to be a servant, to be a steward, is what he asks of each of us.

Bishop's Committee Parishioner Liaison: Every week there is an assigned member of the Bishop's Committee to serve as a Parishioner Liaison. We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern. The liaisons will bring all comments to the monthly meeting of the Bishop's Committee to be addressed as appropriate. This week’s Parishioner Liaison is Caleb Collins.

Divine Diners: Divine Diners will be assigning new dinner groups for November through February. Please contact Teresa Gordon (ttsgordon@gmail.com) or Bobbie Degnon (bdegnon@yahoo.com) if you haven’t signed up and would like to be included in the fun.

Halloween Celebration: There will be trick or treating and games for the children on Sunday, October 28 after the 10 am service. Donations of candy and/or game prizes are needed and appreciated. These items can be left in the kitchen or front office.

Thanksgiving Donations: It's almost time for Turkey again! If you would like to donate toward the purchase of gift cards for Turkeys, Food Pantry volunteers will be accepting donations during coffee time. The gift cards will be given to those in need during food distribution on November 13th.

Thanksgiving: Our annual Thanksgiving service will be held on Wednesday, November 21 at 10 am with Thanksgiving brunch after service. The church will provide two turkeys, but we would like people to sign up for various side dishes and beverages.

Honoring Veterans: We would like to ask for pictures of all active military and all veterans associated with St. Mark’s to update our bulletin board in the courtyard as well as creating an honorarium for Veteran’s Day, 2018. Please contact or send pictures (including names, dates of service, rank and branch) to Mary Ortega at maryortega@cox.net by November 4th.

Sale at MarkDowns: The Thrift Store will have NEW UNUSED items for sale on Sundays during the coffee hour, between 8:45 and 9:45. So come and browse and make your selections. The Thrift Store continues to be opened on Sundays from 8:45-9:45 AM., between the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM services. Also, we need volunteers especially now due to several people having health issues. We need to have at least two people to have the store open otherwise it has to close. All our profits go to help with the church's expenses.

Together in Faith: When the man heard (what Jesus said), he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions. Mark 10:22

Jesus suggested that the man give away everything he had… no wonder he was shocked, no wonder he went away, grieving. Jesus’ suggestion to each of us, though it may be very different from this man’s, may be equally shocking. What is that suggestion, and how do we feel about it?

We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern. Together in Faith: Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Hebrews 2:11

This quote from the Letter to the Hebrews can be considered a core stewardship message. Like Jesus, far from being ashamed to call others brothers and sisters, a steward feels a sense of responsibility and care for others, whether they are part of one’s church community, a broader relationship, or halfway around the world… all others, especially those needing our help, are people we call our brothers and sisters.
