Today's Readings: 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 9-10; Psalm 48; 2 Corinthians 12:2-10; Mark 6:1-13
Together in Faith: On the sabbath Jesus began to teach in the synagogue in his hometown of Nazareth, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, “Where did this man get all this?” Mark 6:2 Sometimes we stifle our stewardship impulses lest we draw attention to ourselves, especially among our own family and circle of friends. Perhaps this story will encourage us to take a leadership role like Jesus did. Bishop's Committee Parishioner Liaison: Every week there is an assigned member of the Bishop's Committee to serve as a Parishioner Liaison. We encourage parishioners to seek out this assigned member whenever there is a suggestion, question or concern. The liaisons will bring all comments to the monthly meeting of the Bishop's Committee to be addressed as appropriate. This week’s Parishioner Liaison is John Ddamba. Back to School: School will be starting soon! If you would like to help needy families prepare their children for school, there will be a donation box in the Narthex for school supplies. Pencils, paper, pens, markers, etc. will be packed into backpacks and distributed on food distribution days during July and August. Thank you for helping to make the beginning of school a happy time! ECW&M Dinner: Back by popular demand, ECW & M is hosting another fundraising dinner at the Outback Steakhouse on Tuesday, July 31st. Tickets will be on sale before and after the service. $20 for adults and $10 for children. Fun, food, and friends! Please join us! Episcopal Night at Chase Field: The Arizona Diamondbacks invite all members of the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona, along with their family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy a time of fellowship and cheer on the D-backs as they host the Seattle Mariners! $24 - Lower Level Bleachers (section 141) (these seats do have backs). It worked so well last year, we're sitting together in the same section again, so everyone will have more of an opportunity to chat with fellow Episcopalians and Bishop and Laura Smith! A portion of every ticket purchased by using this special offer will be designated for Cruzando Fronteras (Migration and Border Ministry). There will be a pre-game party again! Join Episcopalians from all over the Diocese at Trinity Cathedral (100 W. Roosevelt St. in Phoenix) for a pre-game celebration beginning at 5:00 p.m. Free parking at Trinity is available at select spots in the garage, in front of Diocesan House, and street parking in the neighborhood. Gather for refreshments and fellowship, then take the light rail with other fans to the ballpark. Tickets are $4/person for an all-day pass and can be purchased at the light rail stop. The Central/Roosevelt Stop is adjacent to Trinity. After the game, stay for the festivities that are part of the D-backs Faith & Family Night. There will be fireworks, followed by a player Q & A. Special guest MercyMe will be performing a concert to end the event! The ticket order deadline is August 17, 2018. Seating is Limited! Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.azdiocese.org/baseball.html, by phone (the number is on the form), or by mail. Women’s Shelter: Daughters of the King will be accepting donations for the Women’s Shelter. Please place hygiene products in the box provided in the narthex. We would like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, socks, underwear, and other feminine hygiene products. Cursillo Weekend: The next Cursillo Co-ed Weekend is scheduled to take place July 19-22, 2018, at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Phoenix. Anyone interested in attending the Weekend may contact Monica Larsen at 480-621-8158/[email protected] or any member of our Cursillo Ministry. Upcoming Ministry Meetings:
